That answer is short and it hides two things a buyer needs. The first is that the vial arrives without a concentration, so every quantity anyone quotes for it was created by someone adding water. The second is that the research record behind the name is unusually concentrated in one place. What is Epithalon, in sequence and in powder form

Four amino acid residues, in the order alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, glycine. That is the whole molecule, and it is short even by peptide standards. No molecular weight or formula is asserted here, because neither has been verified for this page and neither is needed for anything below.

In the vial it is a dry solid, freeze dried after synthesis, usually a small quantity of white powder that can look like almost nothing at the bottom of the glass. Buyers regularly conclude the vial is underfilled. A few milligrams of lyophilised peptide occupies very little space, and the visual has no bearing on the label.

Epithalamin, and the peptide that was built from it

The name traces back to Epithalamin, a peptide preparation derived from pineal tissue. Epithalon is the synthetic short peptide associated with that line of work rather than an extract, which matters for a practical reason: a synthetic tetrapeptide has a defined composition, while a tissue derived preparation does not.

That distinction is often lost in product copy, where claims made about the earlier preparation are repeated as claims about the synthetic peptide. They are not automatically the same claims, and treating them as interchangeable is the most common error in descriptions of this compound.

Why there is only one container to discuss

Some research peptides reach buyers in more than one format. This one is essentially always a vial of powder, which simplifies the arithmetic and puts the whole of it under the buyer's control.

The chain has three steps. A labelled mass divided by the volume of bacteriostatic water added gives a concentration in mg per mL. A syringe removes a volume, read off printed graduations. Concentration multiplied by that volume gives the mass drawn.

Nothing in that chain is a property of the compound. All of it is a property of a decision made at a bench and, if it was not written down, a decision nobody can reconstruct later.

A first conversion, from a 50 mg label to a syringe reading

Vials of this compound are commonly labelled in tens of milligrams, which changes how the maths behaves compared with a peptide sold in single milligram quantities.

Take a 50 mg vial with 5 mL of bacteriostatic water. Concentration is 50 divided by 5, which is 10 mg per mL. A U-100 insulin syringe holds 1 mL across 100 graduations, so one unit is 0.01 mL. Ten units are 0.1 mL and hold 10 multiplied by 0.1, which is 1 mg. Five units are 0.05 mL and hold 500 mcg.

Now use 2 mL instead. Concentration is 50 divided by 2, which is 25 mg per mL. The same 500 mcg is now 0.5 divided by 25, which is 0.02 mL, or two units. Two graduations is a poor place to measure anything, and a misjudgement of one graduation is half the intended mass.

The powder was identical in both cases. Only the readability changed, and it changed a great deal.

Two more numbers follow from the same label and are worth deriving while the figures are in front of you. Yield: 50 mg drawn 1 mg at a time gives 50 divided by 1, which is 50 withdrawals, and drawn 500 mcg at a time gives 100. Cost per mg: divide whatever the vial cost by 50. No price is quoted here, but the shape of that comparison is easy to state as a ratio. If a 50 mg vial is priced at three times a 10 mg vial, its cost per labelled mg is three divided by fifty against one divided by ten, which is 0.6 times as much. Per milligram on the label, the large vial wins comfortably. Whether it wins per milligram actually used depends on how long the reconstituted liquid lasts, which is a separate limit and not one the label mentions.

The second row is the one everything else depends on. Every microgram figure this site produces is exact given the label and wrong in exactly the same proportion if the label is wrong, and no procedure available to a buyer detects that.

One research group, and what that does to a reader

The published work behind this compound is largely associated with Khavinson and colleagues in St Petersburg, covering pineal peptide preparations and claims about telomerase. That concentration is the central fact about its evidence base and it deserves to be stated without spin.

A finding produced by one group is not thereby false. It is a different kind of claim from one that independent laboratories have reproduced, because replication is how a result gets separated from the methods, materials and assumptions of the place that produced it. Independent replication outside that group is limited, and until that changes, the honest description of a claim here is that it has been reported rather than that it is established.

Reported findings include work in cell cultures, in mice and rats, and human observational work from within that programme. None of it is a registered interventional trial: there are none for this compound, so no trial identifier appears anywhere on this page.

No regulator anywhere has assessed it

Unlike some peptides sold in the same catalogues, this one holds no marketing authorisation in any jurisdiction. There is no approving agency whose review could be pointed at, and no national medical system in which it is a licensed product.

That is a cleaner situation to describe than a compound approved somewhere unreachable, and it is a worse one for a buyer. There is no reviewed label, no adverse event collection to a regulatory standard, and no manufacturing specification behind the powder.
