Epitalon, which is how FDA and PubChem spell the molecule sold as Epithalon, was nominated as a bulk drug substance for use in compounding under section 503A. It was placed in category 2 under the interim policies and then withdrawn by the nominator. FDA's stated reason for concern is a testing question rather than a pharmacological one. The agency writes that compounded drugs containing epitalon may pose risk for immunogenicity for certain routes of administration due to the potential for aggregation and peptide-related impurities, and that it has not identified safety-related information regarding epitalon for the proposed route of administration. That is why the endotoxin and sterility lines on a certificate carry more weight than the purity line most listings lead with, and why a clean screen on one batch is a data point rather than a clearance.

The compound is also marketed on telomere and longevity claims that rest largely on work from a single research group in cell culture, rodents and fruit flies, with limited independent replication. Reporting that those claims exist is not the same as their being established, and no part of that work shows an effect on human lifespan. The material is sold for laboratory research and is not for human consumption.

"Ships from the USA" is a sentence a listing writes about itself. Four things can be checked against an external record.

• A batch number that matches a certificate. • A net content figure. A published fill weight is the rarest field on a research listing and the most checkable. This one reads 9.64 mg against a 10 mg label, under rather than over, which is worth crediting precisely because nobody publishes an unflattering number by accident.
• A dispatch cutoff you can test. A stated same day cutoff before 2pm CST produces a tracking number on the same business day or it does not.
• A return path stated before you order. Read what the vendor commits to on a damaged or mismatched vial before the order rather than after, because research material sold for laboratory use is not covered by the consumer protections that apply to a prescription product.
